At the Grande Lakes JW Marriott in Kissimmee (Greater Orlando), FL

Who should attend? Restorative dentists, specialists and clinical staff members at every level of dental implant therapy experience (novice to advanced) will benefit from this course.

Learning Objectives:

  • Avoid, identify and treat a broad range of complications related to dental implant surgery, hard and soft tissue grafting, and implant prosthetics.
  • Perform a pre-treatment patient evaluation and identify general and esthetic risk factors in order to avoid dental implant complications.
  • Recognize and avoid potential complications in patients with systemic disease, clearly understand the contraindications for dental implant therapy and successfully manage patients on bisphosphonates, anticoagulants, immune system modulators and renal dialysis.Avoid complications with proper treatment planning and the use of digital technologies including CT based planning and computer aided execution of implant placement procedures.
  • Avoid, identify and manage intra-operative surgical complications including: hemorrhage, nerve damage, implant malposition, lack of primary implant stability, damage to adjacent teeth, penetration of the sinus or nasal cavity, tissue emphysema, infection, wound dehiscence, aspiration or ingestion of instrumentation, mandibular fracture and postoperative pain.
  • Avoid, identify and treat complications related to tooth extraction, ridge preservation grafting, immediate placement, immediate function procedures and esthetic implant procedures.
  • Avoid, identify and treat peri-implant mucositis, peri-implantitis and retrograde peri-implantitis of endodontic etiology.
  • Identify and remove failing implants while preserving alveolar bone and understand the factors that influence whether implant replacement will be successful.
  • Avoid, identify and treat complications related to the following bone grafting procedures: particulate bone grafts with guided bone regenerations, sinus lift bone grafts and block bone grafts.
  • Avoid, identify and treat complications related to soft tissue grafting procedures including: donor site hemorrhage, recipient site sloughing, inadequate augmentation volume, delayed healing, and postoperative pain following gingival grafts, connective tissue grafts and palatal pedicle flaps.
  • Avoid, identify and treat prosthetic complications related to: prosthetic planning, interim provisional restorations, improper occlusion, malposed implants, restoration misfit, improper abutment selection, cement problems, screw loosening or fracture, fracturing of restorations including veneering porcelain. Identify when and where to use pink porcelain or other pink restorative materials for implant-supported fixed and removable partial dentures.
  • Avoid litigation by following proper patient interview, education, consultation, case presentation, informed consent and inter-office and intra-office communications protocols.
